Tamer (dates) are an important aspect of Saudi Arab hospitality. When a guest comes by your home you must serve dates then start with other sweets. Dates are palm tree’s fruit. They grow on them in certain time of the year. There are lots of kinds of dates and they vary between regions and seasons. For example in the summer there is what’s called (Rotab).
The middle region of the kingdom produces dates that are called (Sokare).
And the eastern region of the kingdom produces dates that are called (Ekhlas) and so on.
These days they are adding new things to dates for example they invented dipping sauce, adding nuts inside the dates, dipping it in chocolate, dipping it in coconuts, etc. although the new additions to the dates are very delicious, I think that the original ones are better.
Dates are eaten with Arabian coffee and you cannot find a house that is Date-free. Since I am from the east region of Saudi Arabia my favorite kind of dates is (Ekhlas). I will be bringing some with me when I step by you class along with arabian coffee.
